NORTHWEST COAST. Although it's located on the northernmost part of the island, getting to Arashi beach isn't too troublesome. If you drive, there's plenty of parking, and the beach is only a ten-minute walk from the Malmok bus stop. A visit here is certainly worthwhile, as the turquoise water is calm, the white sand is soft, and the snorkeling is excellent.

NORTHWEST COAST. Adrenaline junkies, this one's for you! AAV caters to active vacationers, not the ones who prefer to lounge on the beach all day. Some of the activities they offer are windsurfing, landsailing, kitesurfing, mountain biking, kayaking, body boarding, deep sea fishing and horseback riding, but if there's something else you have in mind they are open to suggestions. Whether you'd like to try something new or enjoy an established favorite, this is the company to contact.

GREATER ORANJESTAD. There are numerous scuba diving and snorkeling businesses on the island, but Aruba Pro Dive is one of the absolute best. The staff is PADI certified and they meticulously maintain all of their modern equipment. Dive groups are small, generally composed of about eight people, and each trip is tailored to the needs and skill levels of its participants. Classes for all skill levels are offered regularly, and free transportation to and from all hotels is available.

GREATER ORANJESTAD. If scuba diving is not your thing but the wonders of the deep fascinate you, Atlantis has just the thing: a submarine tour that allows you to see a stunning array of marine life, from fish and sea turtles to coral and stingrays. If just being under the water (even in a submarine) makes you jittery, try Atlantis' semi-sub, which stays on the surface but offers incredible views from the hull. Tours are offered daily ­ call for specific times.

SAN NICOLAS. This secluded beach gets its name from the calm, shallow waters that make it perfect for babies ­ and timid swimmers! This is the beach that the locals frequent on their days off. Snorkelers will also enjoy this area thanks to the coral formations that shield the lagoon. Bring your own towels and any gear that you will need since there are no facilities here, though a snack truck does offer refreshments, and there are some shaded areas for cooling off.
